Spiders 25th In Two New National Preseason Rankings

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- A pair of new preseason rankings have Richmond as one of the top 25 teams in the nation entering the 2020-21 season. The Spiders ranked 25th in initial preseason rankings recently released by NCAA.com and Yardbarker.
Andy Katz of NCAA.com placed the Spiders 25th in his first Power 36 rankings of the offseason. Katz said he thinks Richmond would have made this year's NCAA Tournament and "won a game or two" once they did, and he notes that the Spiders potential starting lineup of seniors Nathan Cayo, Blake Francis, Jacob Gilyard, Grant Golden, and Nick Sherod "could cause havoc in the A-10".Â
Jeff Mezydlo of Yardbaker also has the Spiders 25th in the nation in his first 2020-21 rankings. Mezydlo projects that Francis's scoring ability and Gilyard, who he calls a "defensive whiz", could make Richmond the team to beat in the Atlantic 10.Â
The Spiders are projected to return each of their top seven scorers from a team that went 24-7 and 14-4 in the Atlantic 10 last season. Richmond appeared in the top 25 in several early 2020-21 rankings, including those from ESPN, NBC, and Stadium.Â
Spider fans who wish to be a part of the 2020-21 campaign can now place a deposit on season tickets and lock in their Robins Center seats for the season.
