UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond Spiders men's basketball team combined for a 3.05 GPA in the fall semester as 10 of the 17 members of the team recorded a GPA of 3.0 or better for the term. The 2020 fall semester is the fourth time in the last five semesters that the Spiders have registered a team GPA of at least 3.0 and an improvement from their fall 2019 GPA of 2.93.Â
13 Spiders completed undergraduate coursework last fall, while four student-athletes -- Blake Francis, Jordan Gaitley, Grant Golden, and Nick Sherod -- pursued graduate degrees. The Spiders attended classes both in-person and virtually as Richmond adjusted its academic operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â

"To succeed academically amidst a pandemic - adjusting to receiving instruction virtually along with the myriad of other safety protocols - speaks to the resiliency and dedication of this team," said Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support and Civic Engagement Courtney Hughes, who works closely with the team. "Their academic maturity and motivation to overcome any challenge is evident in their performance."
Spring classes for all Spiders will begin on Tuesday, January 19.Â
