Spiders Post Second Consecutive Shutout to Remain Unbeaten at Home
10/10/2021 | Women's Soccer
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team returned home Sunday afternoon for the first time in 17 days and continued its unbeaten streak at President's Field with a 1-0 win against Atlantic 10 opponent Rhode Island. The Spiders have now won back-to-back games with back-to-back shutouts to improve to 6-6-1 (4-2-0 A-10) this season, including 5-0-1 at home. The Rams drop to 4-6-2 (3-2-1) with the loss.
The two teams battled to remain scoreless at halftime, and that score would remain until the 67th minute when Molly Morgan drew a foul in the box to set TJ Anderson up for a penalty kick. Anderson beat the Rhody keeper high in the middle with her third goal of the season to convert the PK and give Richmond the 1-0 lead.
Richmond's backline did not allow a shot on goal in the second half, and goalkeeper Claire Hinkle turned away one shot in the first half to get credit for her third shutout of the season, and the sixth shutout for the Spiders as a team.
The Spiders held the advantage overall in shots 9-4 with three of those reaching the target. Anderson and Jessie Prillaman each had a pair of shots while five different Spartans all had one.
The Spiders return to the road this coming week for a matchup at UMass Thursday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
