10/30/2021 | Cross Country
DAYTON, Ohio – Peter Borger (Malvern, Pa.) became the first Spider individual Atlantic 10 Champion since 2010 with a spectacular performance Saturday morning at the Atlantic 10 Championship race. Borger took first with an 8-kilometer time of 24:35.3 at the Elvin R. Kind Cross Country Course. This is the first individual championship for a Spider since Andrew Benford won the Atlantic 10 during the 2010 championship race, and third overall with John Ciccarelli's title run in 2004. As a team, the Spiders finished fifth in the league with La Salle taking home the team title.
Following Borger for the Spiders was last spring's Atlantic 10 Rookie Performer of the Year, Stuart Terrill (Crozet, Va.). Terrill finished his run in 24:47.6 for third place to earn his second Atlantic 10 All-Conference honor.
Noah Campbell (Montpelier, Va.) took 33rd at 25:45.2, followed by Jimmy Quinn (Nutley, N.J.) at 47th with a 25:58.6 time. Robbie Gunia (Fredericksburg, Va.) was fifth Spider across the line at 26:01.8. Patrick Sutphin (Mechanicsville, Va.) added a 54th place finish at 26:02.7. The next Spider in was Riley Fletcher (East Northport, Va.) who took 65th at 26:16.4.
Tanner Crochet (Monmouth, N.J.) and Jake Schindel (Richmond, Va.) added 81st and 84th place finishes in times of 26:31.3 and 26:38.4, respectively. Sean Doolan (Loudonsville, Ky.) was the final Spider across the line at 26:55.1.
