RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond men's lacrosse head coach Dan Chemotti announced a challenging 2022 schedule for the Spiders Thursday featuring five games against NCAA Tournament teams, including three NCAA Semifinalists on the schedule with defending NCAA Champion Virginia coming to Robins Stadium.
The Spiders have appeared in two out of the last three NCAA Tournaments and are defending Southern Conference regular season champions. Reigning SoCon Offensive Player of the Year Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario) and reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year Dalton Young (Chantilly, Va.) lead the Spiders into the season. The Spiders kickoff the year with two scrimmages, beginning at a neutral site against Delaware (Jan. 21) and at Loyola (Jan. 29).
Richmond opens the regular season on the road in Chapel Hill, N.C., facing off against North Carolina February 11. The Tar Heels finished the 2021 season with a 13-3 overall record and an NCAA semifinals appearance. Richmond has faced UNC five times in program history, posting a 2-3 record against the Tar Heels. The Spiders met North Carolina last spring at home, falling 14-9, but won the last previous meeting in Chapel Hill with a 6-5 victory in 2017.
Richmond opens the home portion of the schedule February 19 hosting Marist. The Spiders are 40-23 all-time in program history at home at Robins Stadium, including a 27-12 mark since 2017. This will be the second meeting against Marist as Richmond tallied a 13-11 victory in 2020 at home.
Richmond travels to Towson February 26 for the second meeting in the series. The Spiders return home March 1 for the first-ever meeting against St. Bonaventure.

This year's meeting marks the eighth time Richmond and Duke have met, making the Blue Devils the most-played non-conference opponent in program history.

The Hoyas are coming off one of their best seasons in program history, posting a 13-3 record last year and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Spiders face-off against UMBC March 20 in the seventh meeting in the series between the teams.

The Spiders are an impressive 35-6 (85.4%) all-time in SoCon regular season play, including a 5-1 mark last year on their way to the regular season title.

The Cavaliers posted a 14-4 record last spring, winning their second-straight NCAA Championship. This marks Virginia's fourth visit to Robins Stadium and its first since 2017 when a Robins Stadium lacrosse-record crowd of 5,130 fans were in attendance.
