Gaylord Clamps on A-10 Rookie of the Week Honors

Richmond, Va.— University of Richmond freshman faceoff specialist Vincent Gaylord has been named this week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after his dominant performance Saturday against Hobart.
Gaylord earns the honor after going 16-of-20 at the stripe and scooping 11 ground balls, leading an effort that produced a program-record 30 faceoff wins and fueled Richmond's 51–19 advantage in ground balls over the Statesmen. His 11 ground balls were one shy of his career high and rank as the third-most in a single game in program history, while his 16 faceoff wins are tied for the 10th-most in program history. His 80% faceoff win percentage marked a career best.
While early in his career, Gaylord owns the program's all-time faceoff win percentage mark at over 62 percent, having gone 93-of-148 so far. He ranks 14th in the NCAA this season in faceoff win percentage.
The Spiders, now ranked No. 1 in the Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine polls, travel to Chicago on Saturday to face No. 4/5 Notre Dame during Lacrosse Day in Chicago, hosted by Northwestern. The game is set for a 12:30 p.m. ET start and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra. The Spiders and Fighting Irish have met three times previously (2018, 2019, 2020), with Richmond seeking to even the all-time series at 1–2.
