Geiersbach, Tierney Named Preseason IL Honorable Mention All-Americans

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond attack duo of Sam Geiersbach and Arden Tierney have been named Inside Lacrosse preseason Honorable Mention All-America.
"This is great national recognition for Sam and Arden," head coach Allison Kwolek said. "They have clearly shown that they are among the best players in the country and we look forward to them continuing to prove themselves."
Geiersbach, a 2020 Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection, was a 2020 IL Honorable Mention All-America selection. As a redshirt-junior last season, she led the team with 45 points and 23 assists and was second with 22 goals. She netted the game winner in five of the seven Richmond victories and scored the game-tying goal in the Spiders win over Virginia to force overtime in the eventual win. She also posted a career-high 10 points, with five goals and five assists in the win over Old Dominion earning her second Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors of the season.
Geiersbach, a native of West Babylon, N.Y., finished the shortened 2020 season ranked fourth in assists per game (3.29), fourth in points per game (6.42), fifth among in assists (23) and sixth in total points (45) among NCAA Division I lacrosse. In 48 career games, Geiersbach is seventh in program history with 218 points, ninth with 139 goals and fifth with 79 assists.
Tierney, a 2020 IL Honorable Mention All-America and All-Rookie honoree, looks to build off of her shortened but impressive freshman campaign with the Spiders. She led the team with 24 goals, was second with 34 points and third with 10 assists. She led the Atlantic 10 with 60 draw controls, ranking fifth in the nation with an 8.57 draw controls per game average and helping the Spiders to rank second in draw control percentage (.674) and fifth in draw controls per game (18.57) nationally.
A native of Port Washington, N.Y., Tierney had three games with double figure draw controls, including back-to-back games with 11. She also tallied six goals in back-to-back contests and collected two Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Honors.
