Stockman and Borger Lead Spiders at the Spider/Patriot Cross Country Classic

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Spider cross country was back out at Pole Green Park Saturday afternoon. Richmond welcomed in 11 teams to compete in a women's 5k, and the men's five-mile race as part of the 2021 spring season in the Spider/Patriot Cross Country Classic. The women finished seventh overall, led by a fifth-place finish from freshman Elizabeth Stockman (Rocky Hill, Conn.). Peter Borger (Malvern, Pa.) led the Spiders to a sixth-place spot on the men's side, finishing 10th overall.
The No. 11 Georgetown women's team took first, finishing with three top ten runners. UConn tied with Georgetown on overall points, but was edged out due to the tiebreaker. UConn had four finishers in the top 10, with their fifth runner at 14th. Iona, who is receiving national votes, took third with three runners in the top 21. On the men's side, No. 14 Iona had all five runners finish in the top eight in the race. UMass-Lowell's men's team, also receiving votes in the USTFCCCA, finished third with four top 20 finishes, and their fifth runner finishing 22nd.
The afternoon started with the women's 5k race. Stockman improved her time from two weeks ago by 14 seconds, finishing in 17:20.4. Caroline Robelen (Glen Allen, Va.) added a 33th place finish at 18:23.5. Lily Snow (Richmond, Va.) and Manon Stephen added 35th and 36th place finishes at 18:33.7 and 18:36.6, respectively. Tess Pisanelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) added a finish in 60th at 19:10.4, improving her season-best time by two seconds.
On the men's side, Borger earned the team's top time at 24:46.9, jumping nearly 15 seconds from his first five-mile race earlier this year to earn the 10th-place finish. Last week's A-10 Rookie of the Week, Stuart Terrill (Crozet, Va.) earned a 20th-place finish at 25:11.7. Noah Yuro (Howell, N.J.) was right behind him, finishing 25th at 25:13.8. Noah Campbell (Montpelier, Va.) added a 46th-place time of 25:51.5, and James Quinn (Nutley, N.J.) earned the Spiders' final points, finishing in 58th (26:12.0).
The Spiders return to Pole Green Park in two weeks as they host the Atlantic 10 Championship meet on March 5th.
