Spiders Earn Four Top Times in the Pool at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Four Spiders opened the 2021 season in the pool Saturday afternoon at the February Invitational, hosted by George Mason. Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.), Grace Palfreyman (Bridgewater, N.J.), Jenna Carastro (Vineland, N.J.) and Petra Mijic (Split, Croatia) all logged their first action of the 2021 season.

Of the 13 events, Richmond took first in four. Purcell started the day with a first-place finish in the 200 IM at 2:05.14. Also in the 200 IM, Mijic finished in sixth (2:10.92), and Carastro 12^th (2:16.25).

Palfreyman competed in the 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:07.90. Mijic was one of four competitors in the 1650 freestyle where she took the top spot by seven seconds (17:19.74). Palfreyman added an eighth-place finish in the 100 freestyle (54.71).

Purcell added another first-place time in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:18.26. Carastro added a sixth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at 2:31.09.

The dive team hits the road next week, competing at the Duke Dog Invitational at James Madison on the 27^th, and the dive team will head to a Last Chace Meet the following day.
