RICHMOND, Va. – The 17th ranked University of Richmond men's lacrosse program under the direction of head coach Dan Chemotti announced a challenging 11-game schedule for the 2021 season. The Spiders will play five non-conference games, with four of those games coming against teams ranked in the top 11 of the country in preseason polls.
"We are excited to get back on the field again for our 2021 season," Chemotti said. "We were able to put together a schedule that will challenge our team, while balancing our health and safety protocols to keep our student-athletes safe. The ability to play so many high-caliber programs in our region, is key for our program's goals this season. Our team is excited to get return to the field after having the season cut short last year."
The Spiders are slated to host three non-conference games against nationally ranked opponents, with the first coming in the season opener February 13 when they welcome in No. 11 Loyola to Robins Stadium for a 1 p.m. contest . This will mark the first regular season meeting between the Spiders and Greyhounds as the teams have met. The Spiders open Southern Conference play as the preseason favorites and play two-straight on the road at VMI (March 13) and at Bellarmine (March 20). Richmond hosts rival High Point March 26 in the rematch of the 2019 SoCon Championship game the Spiders won 15-7.
The month of April starts with the Spiders' final non-conference game of the year and their only road out of conference game this season travelling to No. 5 Virginia April 3. This will be the seventh meeting all-time between the Spiders and Cavaliers and the third-straight in Charlottesville.
