Darius Reynolds Named CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week
03/29/2021 | Football
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond redshirt senior defensive end Darius Reynolds (Yorktown, Va.) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday, sharing the honor with Delaware's Chase McGowan. This marks the first CAA weekly honor of Reynolds' career and the second-straight week a Spider has earned a weekly honor (Xavier Marshall, CAA Rookie).
Reynolds led the Spiders to a 3-0 start on the season with a 31-17 victory over visiting Elon Saturday. He posted a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks in the victory as the Spiders limited the Phoenix to only 243 yards of total offense. He becomes the first Spider since Maurice Jackson (vs. UAlbany, 2019) to record at least three sacks in a game. His three sacks are tied for the most in a single game by anyone in the CAA this spring.
Reynolds finished the game with five total tackles helping the Spiders hold Elon to only 21 total yards rushing. Through the first three games of the year, he has recorded 5.0 sacks and 12 tackles on the year in his first time back in the starting lineup since 2018 (injured in 2019).
Reynolds and the Spiders play their second-straight home game this weekend when they welcome in No. 1 James Madison to Robins Stadium. Game time is set for noon Saturday.
