Spiders Finish Regular Season With Road Win At George Mason, 4-0

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and earned three singles wins to clinch a 4-0 win on the road at George Mason Friday at the Mason Tennis Complex.
The Spiders (7-4, 4-1 A-10) won all three doubles matches. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Marta Buendia (Madrid, Spain) and senior Adrienne Haynes (Asheville, N.C.) won 6-3 against Savanna Crowell and Christine McCarthy.
Graduate student Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win against Francesca Trella and Jackie Nannery at No. 1 doubles.
In the final doubles match, sophomore Andrea Campodonico (Asuncion, Paraguay) and freshman Sara Salemyr (Stockholm, Sweden) went to a tiebreaker and pulled out a tight 7-6 (8-6) win against Paige La and Hannah Yang at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Richmond and George Mason played to clinch as the Spiders picked up three singles wins to close out a 4-0 win. Zlateva won in straight sets against Brianna Gibbs, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Salemyr earned a 6-1, 6-2 win against Nannery at No. 5 singles and Campodonico won in straight sets against Crowell, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
In the final three matches, Richmond had taken first sets in all three. Dunbar led 6-3, 2-3 against La at No. 1 singles. Freshman Polina Shitikova (Rybinsk, Russia) also took the first set against Yang, 6-1 and was down 2-3 in the second set before the match went unfinished. Haynes held a 6-1, 2-1 lead in the second set against Ashley Fitz-Patrick.
Richmond will compete at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA National Campus from April 28-May 1. The Spiders will enter the Championships on a three-match winning streak.
