RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond senor attack Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario) has been named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This marks the second SoCon weekly award this season for Lanchbury and his third career honor.
Lanchbury led the 15th-ranked Spiders to at least a share of the SoCon regular season title and a clinching of the number one seed in the SoCon Tournament last weekend with a 21-8 victory on the road at Mercer. Lanchbury tied his own SoCon single-game record with 12 points in the win against the Bears, matching his mark set earlier this season on the road at Bellarmine.
Lanchbury scored five goals and dished out seven assists in the victory. He scored or assists on the Spiders' first seven goals of the game, all of which came in the opening 15 minutes of action. His 12 points are the most by any player in NCAA Division I this season and he has reached that mark twice this year. His 12 points ranks 31st all-time in NCAA Division I history for points in a game. His 12 points raised his career total to 200 points, becoming the second Spider all-time to reach the mark (Teddy Hatfield).
Lanchbury ranks ninth in the country with 55 points this year, scoring 23 goals and dishing out 32 assists. He has been even more dominant in SoCon play this year, scoring 40 points in five games averaging 8.0 points per game in league play. He has scored 16 goals and dished out 24 assists in league play this year.
Lanchbury and the Spiders close out the regular season Saturday hosting Air Force at noon at Robins Stadium. The game will be senior day for the Spiders prior to the contest.
