Men’s Tennis Claims Third Seed At 2021 A-10 Championship

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team earned the No. 3 seed in the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship starting Friday, April 30 at 12 p.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The Spiders (6-8, 3-1 A-10) ended the regular season with a 6-1 win against Saint Joseph's and finished 3-1 against A-10 opponents. Richmond also faced two ranked opponents in VCU (No. 40) and Liberty (No. 49).
UR will open the A-10 Championship with a match against the winner of Fordham (No. 6 seed) and La Salle (No. 11) on Friday, April 30 at 12 p.m. The semifinal round is Saturday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. against either Dayton (No. 2 seed) or the winner of Saint Louis (No. 7 seed) and St. Bonaventure (No. 10 seed).
Senior Matt Fernandez (Richmond, Va.) finished 6-7 at No. 1 singles and was 2-2 against A-10 opponents. Junior Campbell Erwin (San Antonio, Texas) went 3-1 against A-10 opponents and Alex Wernink (Glen Cove, N.Y.) also posted a 3-1 record against league foes.
Junior John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Wernink led the team with eight overall wins in singles. In doubles, freshman Daniel Kliebhan (Newtown, Pa.) and Josh Keitelman (Chevy Chase, Md.) had a solid 6-4 record at No. 1 doubles.
