COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Spiders freshman Rory Weinfurther shot a 6-over par 78 in Tuesday's Round 2 at the Columbus NCAA Regional at Ohio State University Golf Club, moving 10 spots up the individual leaderboard into a tie for 68th. Weinfurther carded 12 pars and six bogeys Tuesday morning on her way to a 78, one shot better than her performance in Monday's opening round.Â
"I think overall I hit the ball a little better," said Weinfurther after the round. "I think I hit more greens. My putting was a little worse, but I think everything worked better together today. I stayed consistent and didn't get too far ahead of myself."
At 157 (+13) through 36 holes, Weinfurther is tied for 68th in the field of 96 with 18 holes remaining. In Richmond's three previous appearances at the NCAA Regionals -- as a team after winning the Patriot League in 2016, 2017, and 2018 -- only one golfer has managed a top 60 finish: Annie Collom tied for 59th at the Tallahassee NCAA Regional in 2018. Tee times for Wednesday's final round have been delayed due to the threat of frost on the course in the morning. Weinfurther is currently slated to begin her final round on the 1st tee at 9:50 AM.Â
"The goal is no three-putts," said Weinfurther. "I had a few today but that's because my proximity ot the hole was a little too far. No three-putts and continue to hit fairways and greens. I think that's the best thing you can do on a course liked this."Â
