Women’s Track & Field Heads to ECAC Championships

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's track and field team is headed to the 2021 Eastern College Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by American International College in Springfield, Mass., competing Saturday, May 15, and Sunday, May 16.

Coming off a fourth-place (110 points) team finish at the 2021 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championship, in Fairfax, Va., May 1-2, eleven Spiders will look to improve their event times and distances to qualify for the 2021 NCAA East Preliminary Championships, in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 26-29.
Richmond will be represented in the 800m by Brooke Fazio (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Maria Acosta (Maywood, N.J.), Kate McAndrew (Denville, N.J.), Kayla O'Connell (Marshfield, Mass.) and Kendra Smither (Richmond, Va.). At the A-10 Outdoor Championships, Fazio won the race with a new meet and UR program record time of 2:03.09, while Acosta took second (2:05.13), as O'Connell finished fourth (2:07.34) and Smither finished sixth (2:11.23).
Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.) will race in the 400m, looking to lower her A-10 Championship first-place time of 53.58.
2021 A-10 Champion with a distance of 6.21m (20-4 ½), Kayla Woods (Wilmington, Del.) will compete in the long jump, looking to improve her personal best mark and UR program record. Woods will also team up with Helbling, Acosta and Fazio in the 4x400m relay.
McAndrew, O'Connell, Smither and Elizabeth Stockman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) will race together in the 4x800m relay. Stockman will also line up for the 1500m event.
Caroline Robelen (Glen Allen, Va.) is set to race in the 5K, looking to drop time from her Raleigh Relay 5K time of 17:19.34.
In sprint events, Kamryn Ross (Richmond, Va.) will line up for the 100m hurdles. Ross turned in a personal best 13:75 and finished second at the A-10 Championships.
Tamar Accius (Jacksonville, Fla.) will race in the 100m and 200m events. Accius finished second and posted personal bests of 11.81 in the 100m and 24.03 in the 200m at the A-10 Championships.
