RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond placed 230 student-athletes on the Atlantic 10 Conference 2020-21 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes excellence in the classroom in sports sponsored by the conference.
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, this is the fourth consecutive year the Commissioner's Honor Roll has been based on the entire academic year. Previously the award was granted following each semester. To be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award.
Spider soccer led the way with 35 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Baseball was second and the top male team with 33 student-athletes honored. Women's lacrosse was third with 31 honored followed by women's cross country/track (26), field hockey (21), swimming & diving (20), women's basketball (16), men's cross country (12), women's tennis (10), men's basketball (10), men's golf (9) and men's tennis (8).
Eleven different Spiders posted a 4.0 grade-point average while 188 Spiders were at a 3.50 GPA or higher.
The Atlantic 10 Conference set a league record with 3,845 unique student-athletes receiving Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction in 2020-21. The 3,845 honorees tops last year's high-water mark of 3,761 unique student-athletes. In previous years, the yearly Commissioner's Honor Roll number was calculated by combining the fall and spring semester totals.
As a conference, the 2020-21 class is 63.16 percent female, while 36.71 percent were male student-athletes. The class was also made up of 17.9 percent (688 total honorees) freshmen, 25.4 percent (978 total) sophomores, 24 percent (922 total) juniors and 27.5 percent (1,058) total) seniors. There were 203 graduate students honored, comprising 5.2 percent of the class.
Conference-wide, women's track & field/cross country had 463 student-athletes honored, and led all sports, followed by men's track & field/cross country with 383, women's soccer with 351, Baseball (331) and women's lacrosse (301).
The Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll only includes Richmond student-athletes from A-10 sponsored sports so no members from football (CAA), men's lacrosse (SoCon) or women's golf (Patriot League) are eligible. Women's lacrosse/field hockey student-athlete Lindsey Frank was counted once in the total number of student-athletes honored but individually counted with each program.
A complete list of Richmond honorees as well as the entire A-10 Honor with all schools is included with this release.
