Cross Country Unveils 2021 Fall Schedule
07/28/2021 | Cross Country
RICHMOND, Va. – Spider cross country unveiled its fall schedule Monday afternoon. The Spiders will be competing in four events leading up to the Atlantic 10 Championships, hosted by the University of Dayton on October 30th. In total, Richmond has eight events on the schedule including the postseason events.

"We are already looking forward to the fall cross country season after a year marred by the pandemic." Head coach Lori Taylor said, "Coming off a year where the cross country season was pushed to the spring, it will be nice to get back to the tradition timeframe. This schedule provides us with a number of high-level competitions, providing our student-athletes with opportunities to face top-tier competition throughout the season. Great competition brings out the best in our great athletes."

"As a staff, we are looking forward to a great fall and are excited about the announcement of our fall cross country schedule." Coach Steve Taylor added, "We feel these events provide our student-athletes with great competition and the opportunity to travel to a few new locations. Additionally, we will travel to the U.S. Cross Country Championships to be held in San Diego next February and we'll have the chance to compete in several Collegiate Running Association National Championship events throughout the year. The combination of these NCAA, USATF and Collegiate Running Association events and locations provides the opportunity, especially for our men's program to have a year-round national championship events on our calendar.

The season gets started on September 4th as the Spiders will host the Alumni open at Pole Green Park, the same facility that saw the men win the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship just four months ago. The women will be running a two-mile race, with the men running a 5k.

Richmond will hit the road for the first time since the 2019 NCAA Regionals on September 17th. The Spiders will head to the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg for the first 6k race of the year for the women, and the men's first 8k event. October 1st, the Spiders return to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Paul Short run, an event the squad last competed at during the 2018 fall season. In the final tune up before the Atlantic 10 Championships, the Spiders will head to the sunshine state for Pre-Nationals, hosted by Florida State at Apalachee Regional Park on October 15th.

The championship season begins on October 30th as the Spiders will head to Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Dayton, Ohio for the Atlantic 10 Championships. The men will look to repeat as the Atlantic 10 Champions, while the women are looking for their fourth title in the past seven seasons.
