RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond soccer team posted its third consecutive shutout Thursday evening, defeating Atlantic 10 foe Fordham 2-0 at President's Field. The Spiders improve to 4-4-1 overall on the season, and remain unbeaten at home (4-0-1) and in conference play (2-0-0). The Rams drop to 2-6-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the A-10. Thursday's win also marks the first time in over a decade that Richmond has started league play 2-0.
The Spiders struck early as Emma Coleman sent a cross into the box where TJ Anderson was able to tap it in for her second goal of the season to give Richmond a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.
Shortly after, the Spiders took advantage of a Fordham turnover in their attacking third as Elle Dziadzio headed down a clearance from the Rams, and Anderson sent the ball up to Jessie Prillaman who was able to finish off the chance to double Richmond's lead in the 13th minute. Prillaman now leads the Spiders with four goals on the year.
The score would stand through the rest of the match as the backline once again shut down the attack, allowing just seven shots. Goalkeeper Taylor Montague turned away all three shots she faced for her second shutout of the season. Richmond has now gone 366 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.
Nora Santelli paced the Spiders with three shots, two on goal. Hannah Antonick added a pair of shots, while six other Spiders had one shot.
The Spiders head out on the road this weekend to face George Washington on Sunday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m.
