Spiders slip to 10th at Bryan National

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Richmond Spiders women's golf team struggled to avoid big numbers in Round 2 of the Bryan National Monday, combining for six double bogeys en route to a team score of 307 (+19), 10 shots off their Round 1 total. With 18 holes remaining, Richmond is in 10th place at 604 (+28).Â
Senior Emily Ward led Richmond with a 73 (+1) in Round 2, posting a pair of birdies to offset a bogey and double bogey. She is the top Spider on the individual leaderboard at 149 (+5) after 36 holes, tied for 30th in the field of 66. Senior Naomi Mitchell was 7-over par through eight holes Monday but recovered to play her final 10 holes in even par, finishing with a 79 (+7). Mitchell is tied for 34th at 151 (+7).
Junior Vicky Zhu is one shot back at 152 (+8) after shooting 80 (+8) Monday. Zhu posted eight straight pars in the middle of her round before bogeying her final four holes. Freshman Lauren Jones shot 75 in Round 2, second best among all Spiders. Jones managed 15 pars and three bogeys and is tied for 39th at 153 (+9) with 18 holes remaining. Sophomore Rory Weinfurther is tied for 51st at 158 (+14) after shooting 81 (+9) Monday.Â
Richmond will start Tuesday's final round at 8:30 AM on holes 13-16 at the Bryan Park Champions Course.Â
Freshman Christine Mandile, playing as an individual in her first collegiate event, is tied for 58th at 160 (+16) after shooting 80 (+8) for the second straight day Monday. She will begin her final round at 8:30 AM on the 17th hole.Â
