Spiders Swimming & Diving Sweeps Weekly Honors

Newport News, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving team swept this week's Atlantic 10 weekly honors with Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) taking home Performer of the Week, while Abby Fuller (Charlottesville, Va.) was named Rookie of the Week.
The Spiders competed at two meets over the weekend, falling to Villanova Friday before picking up two wins against La Salle and Fairfield Saturday.
At Villanova, Purcell took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06:73 as well as second in the 200 free (1:53.62) and in the 200 breast (2:21.23). She placed first in the 200 breast against Fairfield and La Salle the following day with a time of 2:24.41 and touched first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.50. She also added a 24.89 50 free mark, good enough for second against the Explorers and Stags.
Fuller posted a pair of individual wins and a pair of runner-up performances over the weekend. She won the 50 free with a time of 23.77 at Villanova and took second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.02. The next day, she won the 100 free against La Salle and Fairfield with a time of 53.01 and took second in the 100 fly with a time of 58.87. She was also a member of the winning 400 free relay that posted a time of 3:34.75.
