Helbling Fourth in the World After Friday Performance

Boston— Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.) had a huge day at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic Friday, picking up a first-place finish in the 500m run and a slew of noteworthy accolades. Her mark of 1:11.82 breaks her own program record (passing her 1:12.13 from the 2020 ECAC/IC4A Championship meet) and currently ranks fourth in the world, first in the U.S. and first in the NCAA.
Kamryn Ross (Richmond, Va.) came one hundredth of a second away from breaking her own school record in the 60m hurdles. Ross ran an 8.62 for first to nearly pass her PR of 8.61 set just last week. Ross added a second PR on the day, clocking a 24.82 in the 200m dash to improve on her 25.22 also set last week.
Behind Ross in the 200m dash, Tamar Accius (Jacksonville, Fla.) ran a 25.06 for 10th. Accius also came in 10th in the 60m dash prelims with a 7.84.
Three Spiders landed in the top six of the women's 1,000m run while also picking up new personal-best times. Kayla O'Connell (Marshfield, Mass.) dropped nearly four seconds on her PR, running a 2:48.75 for third. Kate McAndrew (Denville, N.J.) came in fourth with a 2:49.64 after shaving over three seconds and Kendra Smither (Richmond, Va.) also cut over three seconds with a 2:49.89 posting.
Madison Trippett (Parkersburg, W.Va.) ran a 4:55.07 mile time for third in the event.
Lily Snow (Richmond, Va.) ran a 10:06.29 in the 3,000 while Elizabeth Stockman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) clocked a 17:12.45 in the 5,000.
Over at the VMI Winter Relays, Lindsay Colflesh (Haddonfield, N.J.) recorded a 3:03.13 to win the 1,000, while Isabel Blaylock (Dallas, Tex.) followed right behind in second with a time of 3:03.40 and Laurel Kurtz (Flemington, N.J.) ran a 3:07.45 for seventh.
Morgan Crocker (Richmond, Va.) clocked an 8.16 in the 60m dash, while Kyra Blakeslee (Wayne, N.J.) and Grace Mittl (Bethlehem, Pa.) followed with an identical 8.33.
Gabrielle Beneducci (Hampton, N.J.) ran a 9.92 in the 60m hurdles while Amaya Jackson (Richmond, Va.) followed with a 9.99.
Virginia Beringer (Fredericksburg, Va.) ran a 1:00.46 in the 400m run, while Morgan Lyons (Basking Ridge, N.J.) ran a 1:02.47 and Maddie Orr (Rumson, N.J.) a 1:03.44.
Manon Stephen (Basking Ridge, N.J.) took eighth in the 5,000 with a 20:13.09.
The Spiders are back next weekend with three meets; the Virginia Beach East Coast Invitational and Camel City Invitational on Saturday and the Virginia Wesleyan Invite on Sunday.
