Lainey Nichols, Kristen Rake Collect A-10 Weekly Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond's Lainey Nichols and Kristen Rake have been selected as Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the Atlantic 10 Conference announced Monday. This is both Nichols and Rake's first weekly honor of their career and fourth and fifth awards for the team this season.
Lainey Nichols (Powhatan, Va.) scored twice in the Spiders 3-2 victory Sunday over Bucknell. Her first goal of the day came in the sixth minute of action, when she deflected in a pass from Ella Hayes (Virginia Beach, Va.) just inside the circle. In the third quarter, Nichols picked up her second goal of the day at the 37th minute to give the Spiders the lead. The freshman faked her defender, spun and her shot hit the Bucknell goalie's pad then trickled between her feet for the game-winner. Nichols is now third on the with five goals this season.
Kristen Rake (Wynnewood, Pa.) collected her first two career starts between the pipes this weekend against Lock Haven and Bucknell, collecting a 1-1 record. She made a career-high six saves in the A-10 contest at Lock Haven and added four more in the victory over Bucknell. On the season, the sophomore has made 15 saves and allowed five goals in 37 shots faced in 159:40 minutes of action.
Richmond returns to Crenshaw Field this weekend to host No. 18 UMass, Friday at 1 p.m. and Stanford, Sunday at 11 a.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
