Richmond, Va.— Redshirt sophomore placekicker Andrew Lopez (New Orleans, La.) has been named the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week after helping the Spiders take down No. 16/17 Villanova at home Saturday.
Filling in for Jake Larson, Lopez connected on the first two field goal attempts of his collegiate career in the fourth quarter. The New Orleans native knocked in a 31-yard field goal with 6:04 to go put the Spiders up 17-10 before he put the CAA preseason favorite away with a 37-yard kick with 1:12 remaining.
Along with hitting both field goals, he was 2-for-2 on point after attempts.
This is the second CAA weekly honor of the season for the Spiders since Reece Udinski was named CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week after the Stony Brook game.
