Men's golf announces 2023 signing class

 RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond men's golf announced the members of its 2023 signing class Friday, at the end of the first week prospective student-athletes enrolling in college in 2023 were eligible to sign a National Letter of Intent. A trio of North Carolina golfers -- Jack LaPiana (Charlotte, N.C.), Owen Pearce (Winston-Salem, N.C.), and Quin Polin (Cary, N.C.) -- and Parker Moellinger from Vestavia Hills, Ala. have signed NLIs with Richmond and will attend the University next school year.Â
Following his junior year at Providence Day School in Charlotte, N.C., Jack LaPiana was named First Team All-State by the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association and Second Team All-State by the Charlotte Observer. LaPiana earned medalist honors at the 2021 Tarheel Youth Golf Association Triad Greensboro Junior, shooting 66-71/137, and finished runner-up at the 2022 TYGA Metro Junior. He also won a state championship with the Providence Day football team in 2019. LaPiana is a member of the Wing Haven Service Club and the National Honor Society.Â
Parker Moellinger captains the varsity golf team at Alabama's Vestavia Hills High School. Moellinger has led the team to back-to-back 7A state championships and was a 2022 Third Team All-State selection by the Alabama Golf Association. In August, he won the Alabama Junior Golf Association Preview at Carolina Trace by seven strokes after carding rounds of 71 (-1) and 68 (-4). He also has a pair of Southeastern Junior Golf Tour wins: the 2022 Mossy Oak Junior Classic and the 2022 TPC Sawgrass Junior Classic. Moellinger is a member of several honor societies, including the National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, and the National Science Honor Society. He is also a volunteer at the Unless U foundation, which assists in the education of special needs children.Â

Owen Pearce attends R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston Salem, N.C., where he earned First Team All-Conference and All-Region honors in 2021 and 2022. He was named Central Piedmont Conference Men's Golfer of the Year in 2022, the same year he shared the MVP award for the Reynolds varsity golf team. Pearce is a three-time junior club champion at Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem. He is also a member of the National Honor Society who volunteers for First Tee Central Carolina.Â
Quin Polin, who attends Green Hope High School in Cary, N.C., is currently 73rd in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association World Rankings and has collected four top-five finishes in national-level AJGA events this year. Polin placed fourth at the 2022 North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A state championship, helping Green Hope to a runner-up finish. Polin has 53 overall wins in junior golf events, including the 2018 ACC Southeastern Fall Classic at NC State's Lonnie Poole Golf Course, where he set a junior course record by shooting 63 in the second round. Polin's most recent win also came at Lonnie Poole Golf Course, where he won the Wolfpack Junior Amateur in May. Polin, a member of the Callway Junior Elite Program, has helped raise over $10,000 for the Folds of Honor Foundation.ÂÂ
