RICHMOND, Va. – With the lead never in doubt, the University of Richmond women's basketball team collected an historic 119-55 victory over Longwood University Sunday at the Robins Center.
The Spiders 119-point output marks a new women's basketball program record of points scored at the Robins Center, eclipsing the 115-point total against American, scored on Jan. 28, 2000. It was also just shy of the overall program record, 123 points tallied at Delaware State Nov. 30, 1996. It's also been five seasons since UR has scored 100 points, collecting a 100-63 victory over Savannah State (Nov. 22, 2017).
Richmond also set a new program record with 18 made three-pointers, paced by Siobhan Ryan's career-high matching six from long-range. The Spiders erased two games of 17 made three-point totals against American (Jan. 28, 200) and Massachusetts (Dec. 28, 1998). Ryan finished the game with 20 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
A more relaxed Spider offense got going by Katie Hill scoring 10-straight points in the first three minutes of the game and the squad never looked back. Hill finished with a career-high 18 points, on 6-of-9 shooting from the field with two three pointers, as well as six rebounds and three assists.
Rachel Ullstrom led all scorers with a career-high 26 points all from off the bench. Ullstrom went 11-for-16 from the field, hit three three-pointers, pulled down seven boards and collected four steals. Fellow rookie Torin Rogers netted a season-high nine points, including a halftime buzzer beating three-pointer, three rebounds, two assists and a block.
Addie Budnik collected her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while chipping in four assists, four blocks and a steal. Fellow junior Kylee Lewandowski tallied a career-high 10 points, with her second three-pointer pushing the Spiders over the program record, and two steals.
All active Spiders saw at least 11 minutes of action, scored at least two points and dished out one assist. The Spiders 30 helpers is a new Robins Center women's basketball program record that had stood since 1986 (28 against both UNCW, Feb. 10, and vs Coppin State, Dec. 9).
Richmond, now 7-3 on the year, is back in action Thursday, hitting the road to take on Elon for a 11 a.m. contest on FloHoops.
