12/14/2022 | Baseball
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond baseball coach Tracy Woodson has announced the addition of six prep players for the 2024 season, three pitchers and three position players.
The pitchers set to join the Spiders in for the fall of 2023 are lefties Hugh Hill (Conway, Ark.) and Kellan Heney (Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass.) and righty Jackson Hinchliffe (Fair Haven, N.J.). Position players that will join the squad are catcher Jack Arcamone (Trumbull, Conn.), and infielders Nick Lorenzo (Maplewood, N.J.) and Joey Wilga (Doylestown, Pa.).
"We definitely think as a staff that we filled our offensive and defensive - as well as on the mound - needs with this class," Woodson said. "We are excited to get them on campus in the fall."
Hill, a 6-4 left-handed pitcher, is a two-time 6A Central All-Conference and 6A All State Tournament Team honoree with Conway High. In his junior season, Hill was also named All-State after he finished the season with a 1.22 ERA and had 10-straight outings over 20 innings without surrendering a run to help the Wampus Cats to a 6A Arkansas state title.
Woodson on Hill: "Excited to pull him from Arkansas. He is a big, strong kid on the mound that pumps a lot of strikes."
Heney, a 6-3 left-handed pitcher, posted an undefeated freshman season collecting the wins in both the district and Massachusetts state championship games with the Manchester-Essex High squad. As a captain with Hornets in his third season, Heney struck out 54 batters in 27 and two-thirds of an inning of work, collecting Most Valuable Pitcher honors in the Massachusetts State All-Star Game. After transferring to Governor's Academy last year, Heney went 4-1 with a save, leading the Independent School League with a 0.84 ERA. He collected ISL Pitcher of the Year as well as ISL First Team and All-New England Second Team honors.
Woodson on Heney: "He is an absolute bulldog on the mound. He knows how to pitch and compete."
Hinchliffe, a 6-foot right-handed pitcher, is a three-year starter for the Rumson-Fair Haven High Bulldogs, putting together a 1.90 ERA, striking out 90 and collecting a 9-0 record on the hill. He was twice named to the All-Division Team and All-Shore Conference Second team. Over the past three seasons, he has helped the Bulldogs win a county, division and NJSIAA CJ Group II Championship. Hinchliffe's club team, Canes American, also was ranked 11th in the country in 2020, then jumped to ninth after the 2021 season.
Woodson on Hinchliffe: "Jackson is a strike thrower. He's very athletic on the mound and a tremendous competitor."
Acramone, a 6-1 catcher, helped the Fairfield Prep squad to back-to-back Southern Connecticut Conference Championships in 2021 and 2022, posting a 35-12 record over those two seasons. He collected All-SCC Second Team and All-State honors after his junior season. This past summer he helped his club team, The Clubhouse, to a 17U Super 25 National Championship title. He is the number nine prep player in the state of Connecticut and the number two catcher in the state according to Perfect Game rankings.
Woodson on Arcamone: "Jack is a big, strong catcher who continues to get better, and could be playing soon upon arrival to campus."
Lorenzo, a 5-7 infielder, is a three-year varsity starter that helped the Pingry Big Blue to a 23-3 Prep A Championship title in 2022 with a perfect home record that season. The Big Blue also collected Skyland Conference Championships in 2022 and 2021. Lorenzo collected two All Skyland Conference First Team honors as well as two All-Prep A First team accolades. With his club baseball team, the Diamond Jacks Super (15U-18U), he was named to five different Perfect Game All-Tournament Teams. This fall he played varsity soccer, collecting three assists in eight starts.
Woodson on Lorenzo: "A middle infielder that can play the outfield as well. He puts the ball in play and has tremendous speed."
Wilga, a 6-3 infielder, is a three-year starting letterman for the Central Bucks East High Patriot. He tied for the lead in RBI in the Colonial League while putting together a .943 fielding percentage. With his club team, the Mid Atlantic Hurricanes, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Diamond Nation Super 17 tournament and competed in the WWBA Perfect Game Tournament.
Woodson on Wilga: "A big, strong kid who has one of the quickest bats I've seen out of a high school player. Definite power."
