Ryan Lanchbury Named To The Tewaaraton Award Watch List
02/10/2022 | Men's Lacrosse
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond senior attack Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario) has been named to the preseason Tewaaraton Award Watch List, which annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.
This marks the third-straight season that Lanchbury has been on the Watch List and is the only time a Spider has been on the list in more than one season in their career. He leads the Spiders into their season opener Friday on the road against No. 4 North Carolina. The game will be nationally televised on the ACC Network at 5 p.m.
Lanchbury was an All-America selection after the season last spring and was the first Spider in program history named SoCon Offensive Player of the Year this year. He ranked second in the SoCon in scoring with 67 points in 13 games, scoring 28 goals and dishing out 39 assists. In SoCon play only, Lanchbury leads all scorers with 44 total points, 11 more than any other player, averaging 7.33 points per game in the six contests, which is a league record and more than a point better than any out player in league history.
Lanchbury's 67 points ranked third all-time in a single-season in program history, trailing only his and Teddy Hatfield's 72-point seasons both coming in 2019. He set a program-record with 5.15 points per game last spring, scoring his 67 points in just 13 games. Additionally, his 39 assists were the most in a single season in program history while averaging a record 3.0 assists per game.
The two-time SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, Lanchbury is second all-time in program history with 212 points, 122 goals and 90 assists in his career.
Lanchbury is the fifth different Spider in the eight-year history of the Richmond men's lacrosse program to be named to the watch list. He joins the likes of Jack Rusbuldt (2020), Teddy Hatfield (2019), Benny Pugh (2017) and Mitch Goldberg (2016).
The lists include the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for the Tewaaraton Award. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
