Hall of Fame Coach Dom Starsia Joins SpiderTV Men's Lacrosse Broadcasts
02/21/2022 | Men's Lacrosse
Hall of Fame coach Dom Starsia will serve as analyst on Richmond's men lacrosse broadcasts this season. The former Brown and Virginia head coach will join veteran play-by-play voice Robert Fish and the SpiderTV production team for home games at Robins Stadium. The live video stream will be available on ESPN+.
Starsia, the winningest coach in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse history (375-149 .716 in 34 seasons), led Virginia to four national titles and 13 final four appearances during his 24 years as Cavaliers head coach.  He guided UVa to six ACC titles and Brown to two Ivy League championships.  He will make his broadcast debut on Saturday's 11am home opener when Coach Dan Chemotti's Spiders meet Marist.
"I've been friendly with Dan a long time and have visited with his staff and team ever since I retired once or twice a year," said Starsia. "I've enjoyed following them and the way the program has grown and how well coached they are.  I was happy to do this with him and the Richmond program. I've been in front of the camera a lot over the years and have always been intrigued by that part of it and wanted to try my hand at it."Â
Starsia brought his Cavaliers to Robins Stadium for Richmond's first-ever Division I game when the Spiders' start-up program began play in 2014. Virginia won, 13-12, in front of a crowd of more than 4,200. "I told (Dan) I thought it would be a great way to kick off his Division I program. As that game went on, I was standing there on our sideline thinking 'wow, maybe I made a mistake coming here.' But I was happy to do that and it was an exciting moment for Richmond."
Two home games against nationally-ranked opponents are scheduled to air on regional television. The Saturday March 12 game against Georgetown and the Saturday April 2 contest against Virginia are set for NBC Sports Washington. Both games will face off at noon.
