Construction At Pitt Field In Full Swing
3/25/2022
RICHMOND, Va. – Construction has begun on facility improvements at Pitt Field, the home at University of Richmond baseball. This phase of improvements for Pitt Field consists of two parts – a new fan entrance for Pitt Field that includes an outfield plaza in right field and a new state state-of-the-art indoor batting and pitching practice facility down the left field line.
Construction commenced last month and will continue throughout the 2022 season with the project anticipated to be substantially completed by the end of summer.
The outfield plaza will create a new fan experience by including a terrace in right field where fans can bring their own chairs to congregate and watch Spider Baseball. Additional benches will be available in right field in front of the terrace and turf seating berms will be adjacent on both sides for fan seating. Finally, the plaza will include new dedicated bathrooms for fans.
The new indoor batting and pitching practice facility will be constructed down the left field line, where the current Spider outdoor batting cages are located, running parallel to Westhampton Lake. The 3,667 square foot facility will include two full batting cages and pitching mounds with branded garage doors down each side allowing for natural air flow through the facility. Additional bathrooms for the baseball team’s use will be included in the new practice facility. This new batting and pitching facility will provide our baseball student-athletes an indoor facility they can utilize all year round.
