Six Spiders Earn VaSID Academic All-State Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Six University of Richmond student-athletes were selected to the 2025-26 Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State Team. To qualify, student-athletes must be at least sophomores in academic standing and hold a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25. This year's team recognized 215 student-athletes representing 36 institutions across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Richmond's honorees are men's lacrosse's Joe Sheridan, men's tennis' Cole Brashear, women's basketball's Maggie Doogan, field hockey's Clara Larripa, swimming and diving's Presley Baber and baseball's Dylan Winebrenner.
Sheridan earned VaSID Academic All-State recognition for the second consecutive year following a decorated senior campaign. A biochemistry and molecular biology major, Sheridan was named the Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year and earned First Team All-Atlantic 10, A-10 All-Academic and A-10 All-Championship honors. He collected Second Team All-America recognition from USA Lacrosse, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and Inside Lacrosse after recording 31 goals and 10 assists. Sheridan became the 11th player in program history to reach 100 career points and was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team. He received Richmond's Spider Athletics Presidential Citation and was selected as the University's 2026 Atlantic 10 postgraduate scholarship recipient.
Brashear helped Richmond capture its first Atlantic 10 championship since 2006. A leadership studies and psychology major, Brashear earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 and A-10 All-Academic honors after posting a 12-4 singles record and a 17-5 mark in doubles. He clinched Richmond's 4-3 semifinal victory over top-seeded VCU before rallying from a set down to secure the championship-winning point against Dayton. Brashear closed the regular season by going 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles during a perfect week that earned him A-10 Player of the Week honors. He was also selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Doogan capped one of the most accomplished careers in Richmond women's basketball history with a record-setting senior season. A business administration major with a concentration in marketing, Doogan repeated as Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference and A-10 All-Academic honors. She received honorable mention All-America recognition from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, USA Today Sports and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and was named to the CSC Academic All-America Third Team. Doogan averaged 21.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 50.6% from the field, 40.4% from 3-point range and 89% from the free-throw line. She scored a program-record 716 points during the season, including a Richmond and A-10 record 48 points against Davidson. Doogan finished her career second in program history with 2,138 points and helped the Spiders earn a third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Larripa earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association Third Team All-America honors following a prolific junior campaign. A business administration major with concentrations in entrepreneurship and marketing, Larripa was also named to the NFHCA All-South Region First Team, First Team All-Atlantic 10, A-10 All-Academic Team and A-10 All-Championship Team. She started all 20 contests and recorded career highs with 20 goals, eight assists and 48 points. Larripa scored or assisted on both goals in Richmond's double-overtime victory over VCU that secured a share of the A-10 regular-season title and added a hat trick in the Spiders' conference tournament semifinal victory over Davidson.
Baber helped Richmond reclaim the Atlantic 10 swimming and diving championship with a standout performance at the conference meet. A Latin American, Latino and Iberian studies major, Baber won four gold medals, earning victories in the 200-medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 100-freestyle. She also earned silver in the 400-medley relay and 100 breaststroke and bronze in the 50-freestyle. Baber helped set a program record in the 200-medley relay and conference and program records in the 200-freestyle relay. She was named to the A-10 All-Academic and CSC Academic All-District teams.
Winebrenner made an immediate impact in his lone season with the Spiders. He graduated in May with a Master of Liberal Arts degree and earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 and ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Atlantic Region Second Team honors. Winebrenner started all 57 games and batted .359 with 16 home runs, 78 hits and 60 runs while recording a .645 slugging percentage and .470 on-base percentage. He ranked among the top eight in the A-10 in each category and was selected to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year watch list. Winebrenner also earned CSC Academic All-District recognition before being named to the CSC Academic All-America Third Team.
