Weinfurther Leads Women’s Golf After Day One At River Landing

WALLACE, N.C. – The University of Richmond women's golf team sits in a tie for fifth place overall after 36 holes of the River Landing Classic hosted by UNCW Monday at the River Landing Golf Club in the Spiders' first full-field event of the spring.
The Spiders as a team posted a 16-over par 592, sitting in a fifth place tie with Elon. The Spiders tallied back-to-back rounds of 294 and 298 in the 14-team field. Richmond was tied with day one leader James Madison with 28 total birdies in the first 36 holes. The third and final round will be played Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start with live scoring available via Golf Stat.
Sophomore Rory Weinfurther (Fayetteville, Ga.) led the way and is tied for third place overall with a 1-over par 143, just two shots out of the lead. Weinfurther is tied for third in the field with 28 total pars in her first 36 holes of play. She posted a 1-under par 71 in round one, recording two birdies, one bogey and 15 par scores. She followed that up with an even-par 72 in round two.
Junior Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, N.C.) sits in a tie for 18th place overall after a 4-over par 148. Uppal is second overall in the field with eight birdies in the first two rounds. She opened with a 3-over par 75 in round one and added a 1-over par 73 in round two. She carded four birdies in each of the two rounds Monday.
Senior Naomi Mitchell (Norfolk, Va.) continued her strong play of late, carding a 5-over par 149, sitting in a tie for 24th overall. Mitchell posted an even-par 72 in round one with three birdies, four bogeys and 11 par scores. She followed that up with a 5-over par 77 in round two. She tallied seven birdies in the first 36 holes, ranking third in the field.
Junior Vicky Zhu (Shanghai, China) played as an individual this event and posted an 11-over par 155. Zhu posted scores of 78 and 77 in the first two rounds.
Senior Emily Ward (Niagara Falls, Ontario) carded a 14-over par 158, including a 4-over par 76 in round one. Ward recorded three birdies and eight pars in the opening round. Freshman Lauren Jones (Newtown Square, Pa.) tallied a 4-over par 76 in round two, finishing the day with a 15-over par 159. She notched 11 pars and a pair of birdies in her second round.
