RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond linebacker Tyler Dressler (Covington, Va.) will continue his football journey as he was invited to participate in a pair of NFL mini camps in the coming weeks with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets. Mini camp is an opportunity for selected players to take part in team camps with the hope of signing a contract to attend preseason camp in the fall.
Dressler was a five-year member of the Spiders and a three-time First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection. He played in 43 career games, making 25 starts over his last three seasons. He finished his career with 249 tackles, including 27.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. He also added four interceptions in his career.
Dressler was a First Team All-CAA selection in 2021, starting all 10 games he played. He finished second on the team with 92 tackles, ranking third in the CAA with 9.2 tackles per game. Dressler led the team with three interceptions while forcing one fumble and recording 2.5 sacks. He was named the Capital Cup Most Valuable Player this year, posting 11 tackles in the Spiders win.
Dressler, a two-time team captain, earned First Team All-CAA in the shortened spring season. He tallied 29 tackles, ranking seventh in the CAA in four games.
Dressler was a First Team All-CAA selection in 2019, leading the team with 104 tackles in 11 games. He led the CAA in tackles per game at 9.5, ranking 25th in the country. He posted a career-high 20 tackles in the Spiders win over No. 18 Maine in 2019.
Spider football connections are prevalent with both NFL teams Dressler has been invited. Former Spider Joe Douglas is the current General Manager for the New York Jets while former assistant coach last season David Corley is the assistant quarterbacks coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
