RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond graduate attack Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario) and fifth-year senior defender Jake Saunders (Oakville, Ontario) were both named Honorable Mention All-America by Inside Lacrosse Monday.
This marks the third time in his career that Lanchbury has earned All-America accolades. He finished his Spider career rewriting the record books in career, season and game scoring history. Lanchbury is the all-time leader in points (293), goals (162) and assists (131) in a career.
He finished the season with a program-record 81 points, leading the Spiders to their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in eight years. He scored a team-high 40 goals and added 41 assists. His 41 assists set a new single-season record, breaking his own previous mark, while his 40 goals are second most in a single season, trailing only his own season record set in 2019. Lanchbury also owns the program records for games played (70) and games started (69) in a career.
Saunders started 14 out of 15 games this season on defense, helping the Spiders rank eighth in the nation in scoring defense at 10.06 goals per game. He led the team with 23 caused turnovers, leading the team to a ninth place showing in the country as a team with 9.62 caused turnovers per game. He led the Southern Conference and ranked 27th in the country with 1.53 caused turnovers per game.
Saunders ranked second on the team and first among non-faceoff specialists with 33 ground balls. He picked up one of the biggest ground balls of the season in the final minute of regulation in the Southern Conference championship game, sealing the victory over Jacksonville.
The Spiders ended the regular season with an 11-5 overall record after making their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014. Richmond is only one of 16 programs in the country that has appeared in four tournaments since its inception.
