RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball program placed five members on the Atlantic 10 Conference baseball postseason All-Conference teams, the league announced Wednesday.
Dominic Toso (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned First Team honors, while Alden Mathes (Broomall, Pa.) collected Second Team accolades. Jake Elbeery (North Andover, Mass.) and D.J. Pacheco (Danvers, Mass.) were named to the All-Rookie Team. Brenden Argomaniz (Claremont, Calif.) earned All-Academic Team honors.
Toso, collecting his first A-10 postseason honor, has had a standout year as the Spiders starting third baseman. He opened the season with a 20-game hit streak, including 12 mutli-hit games, to not only pace the Spiders offensively but the nation as well. Toso heads into the A-10 Tournament ranked second in the country averaging 1.81 hits per game, sixth with a .402 average, and 11th averaging 1.35 RBI per game. In 44 starts, Toso leads Richmond in hits (78), doubles (18), RBI (58), including two games with six RBI, and only struck out 20 times in 194 at bats. Toso also had two walk-off hits, including a three-run home run, of the Spiders' five walk-of victories this season.
Mathes started 50 games, with six on the mound, for the Spiders. Tallying the second A-10 honor of his career, Mathes is second on the squad with a .345 average, 77 hits, 13 doubles, four triples and 52 RBI. He leads the squad with nine home runs, including a grand slam, and seven stolen bases. On the mound this season, Mathes has a 2-2 record in seven appearances with a 3.38 ERA, allowing 17 runs, 16 earned, on 26 hits over 40.0 innings to hold opposing batters to a 1.82 average.
Elbeery appeared in 50 of 51 games, with 49 starts, as a true freshman. He collected 17 multi-hit games, including a career-best 5-for-5 day at JMU, and 10 multi-RBI games. He is third on the team with 39 RBI and 22 walks, fourth with 64 hits, and fifth with a .309 average. His 64 hits eclipsed UR freshman hits mark of 58 in 46 games, set by Kyle Adams in 2015. Elbeery tallied his first collegiate home run with a walk-off 3-run home run against William & Mary (2/22). He earned A-10 Rookie of the Week (4/18-4/24) honors after going 10-of-19 at the plate with five RBIs and four runs scored. The Spiders starting first baseman is currently riding a nine-game hit streak.
Pacheco, in 31 starts in 37 appearances this season, hit .283 with 34 hits, six doubles, three home runs, and 24 RBI during the regular season. In 19 league games with 17 starts, Pacheco is hitting .333 with 21 hits in 63 at bats with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI. While currently riding a five-game hit-streak, Pacheco tallied a season-high eight game hit streak with eight multi-hit and six multi-RBI games, including a career-high five RBI output.
Argomaniz, a political science major, earned the 2022 University of Richmond Presidential Citation as the senior male student-athlete with the highest GPA. He graduated magna cum laude this month with his bachelor's degree. Serving as one of the Spiders top relievers, Argomaniz has transitioned into the Sunday starter the last three weekends of the season. He is 5-0 this season in 16 appearances with three starts, throwing 44.1 innings allowing 23 runs, 20 earned, on 26 hits with 19 walks and 28 strikeouts for a 4.06 ERA.
