Six Spiders Named VASID Academic All-State

RICHMOND, Va. – Six University of Richmond student-athletes were named to the 2021-22 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team. In order to qualify, student-athletes must be a sophomore in academic standing with a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
Junior men's golf student-athlete Lou Baker (Timonium, Md.), women's basketball sophomore student-athlete Addie Budnik (Highland Park, Ill.), soccer and track senior student-athlete Taylor Coleman (Indian Trail, N.C.), junior swimming student-athlete Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.), redshirt sophomore football student-athlete Robert Rolfe (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and junior women's lacrosse student-athlete Arden Tierney (Port Washington, N.Y.) were honored with the best of the state.
Baker earns his first Academic All-State selection as a business administration major. He is an Atlantic 10 Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient and ended his junior year fourth in Richmond's career scoring list with a stroke average of 73.77. He was one of three Spiders that played in every event this year, leading the team with three top-10 finishes. His best finish was a fourth place showing at Ross Collegiate Classic.
Budnik also earns her first academic All-State honor. The pre-business major is a two-time A-10 Academic Honor Roll selection. She earned the sophomore GPA award for the athletics department at the annual Spidys Awards. She was named Second Team All-Conference in 2021-22, leading the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game and ranking second in rebounding at 5.9 boards per game.
Coleman earns her second-straight Academic All-State accolade. The four-time A-10 Academic Honor Roll recipient was an environmental studies major. She took home the Presidential Citation Award at the Spidys for the top senior GPA and was named the Spiders Scholar Athlete of the Year. The two-sport letterwinner (soccer and track) minored in Latin America, Latino and Iberian Studies.
O'Shaughnessy has also earned two-straight Academic All-State honors. The psychology major is a three-time A-10 Academic Honor Roll selection and an Academic All-Conference selection this year. She finished fourth in the 100 butterfly with a 54.27 and took home silver in the 200 butterfly with a 2:00.60. She also medaled twice as a relay member, finishing third as the fly leg in the 400 medley relay (3:40.59) and helped the Spiders set a new program record in the 800 free relay (7:16.97) when she swam the opening 200 meters.
Rolfe picks up his first career Academic All-State honor. He earned the top GPA Award for juniors at this year's Spidys. He is a three-time Colonial Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll recipient. The wide receiver played in eight games this past fall as a business administration major.
Tierney adds her second Academic All-State award in as many years. The business administration major is a three-time A-10 Academic Honor Roll recipient. She was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 this season and was named to the A-10's All-Academic Team. She ended the season second in the conference in points per game (4.0) and second in draw controls (98). She tallied 72 points on the year, scoring 39 goals and handing out 33 assists.
There were 37 schools in the state represented and 222 student-athletes honored.
