Spiders Set to Compete in Puerto Rico Clasico in December

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team is heading south this winter to compete in the Puerto Rico Clasico, which takes place Dec. 19-21 at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan. Joining the Spiders in the tournament will be Ball State and Tarleton State.
The Spiders open play on Dec. 20 against Ball State and follow that up against Tarleton State Dec. 21. All game times are TBA.
"I am pumped to play in Puerto Rico with this year's team," said head coach Aaron Roussell. "We have heard incredible things about this tournament, and we are grateful to our administration for valuing this experience and making this happen. It will be great competition and an amazing experience for all of us."
Puerto Rico College Sports Tours has hosted the DI Women's Basketball Clasico annually since 2016, and has welcomed over 700 teams to Puerto since the inception of the organization in 2006.
In addition to the DI Clasico, the historic Roberto Clemente Coliseum (Coliseo Roberto Clemente) has played host for world championship boxing bouts, the final phase of the 1974 World Basketball Championship, BSN professional basketball games, concerts, and more.
"This is an amazing opportunity for our team and program to be able to compete in a destination like Puerto Rico. It's an incredible experience that we are so excited for and thankful to be part of," said junior Addie Budnik.
