STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Richmond Spiders women's golf team rebounded from a slow start in the opening round of the Nittany Lion Invitational to fire a 5-over 293 in the second round, tied for the seventh-lowest single-round team score in team history. Richmond's effort on Saturday afternoon moved the Spiders up five spots on the team leaderboard during the second round; UR is now tied with Eastern Kentucky for fifth in the 10-team field at 597 (+21).Â
Junior Rory Weinfurther played 36 holes in 1-under par to lead Richmond on Saturday and is tied for sixth in the field of 93. Weinfurther's 27 pars Saturday were tied for the third most of any player.
In her first tournament since winning individual medalist honors at last week's William & Mary Fall Invitational, freshman Hannah Lydic shot rounds of 74 and 71 Saturday and is in ninth place at 145 (+1). Lydic finished her day with an eagle on the par-4 6th hole on Penn State's Blue Course.Â
Sophomore Lauren Jones is tied for 71st at 157 (+13), one shot in front of teammate Vicky Zhu, who is tied for 73rd. Zhu bounced back from an 86 in Round 1 to shoot an even-par 72 in Round 2, matching the lowest round of her collegiate career.Â
Freshman Olivia Wilkie is tied for 86th at 164 (+20) after shooting rounds of 80 and 84 Saturday.Â
The 2022-23 Spiders have now recorded three of the 11 lowest rounds in program history, following a 1-under 287 in Round 1 and a 3-over 291 in the final round at last week's season-opening William & Mary Fall Invitational.Â
