Football Moves Into Top 25 In Both Polls

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond football team moved back into the national rankings this week as the Spiders are ranked No. 22 in the FCS Stats Perform Poll and No. 24 in the AFCA Coaches' Poll after improving to 2-1 on the year with a 30-6 victory at Lehigh. The Spiders opened the year ranked 24th in the nation in the preseason polls and this week marks their first in-season ranking of the year.
The Spiders have won six-straight games against FCS opponents dating back to last season after closing 2021 with four-straight victories. Richmond has won back-to-back games this year, posting a 31-21 victory over Saint Francis prior to this past weekend's win in Bethlehem, Pa.
Graduate quarterback Reece Udinski (North Wales, Pa.) leads the country in completion percentage at 76.7 percent through the first three games. Udinski connected on his first 17 passes of the game against the Mountain Hawks. He has completed 89-of-116 for 760 yards and six touchdowns this year. He enters the weekend second in the FCS among active players with 8,720 career passing yards.
Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jasiah Williams (Petersburg, Va.) leads a talented receiving corps with 23 receptions. Williams ranks first in the CAA and sixth in the country averaging 7.7 receptions per game for 156 yards this year. The Spiders have four different wide receivers with 10 or more receptions on the year.
Defensively, the Spiders are led by redshirt junior linebacker Tristan Wheeler (Bethlehem, Pa.). Wheeler ranks second in the CAA with 38 tackles in three games, averaging 12.7 tackles per game. He enters this weekend with 294 career tackles.
The Spiders open Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend when they welcome in Stony Brook to Robins Stadium. The game is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff and will be held in conjunction with the University's annual Family Weekend.
