Weinfurther leads Spiders at The Lady Paladin

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Junior Rory Weinfurther led the Richmond women's golf team with a 2-over 74 in the opening round of The Lady Paladin at the Furman Golf Club Friday. Starting on the back 9, Weinfurther made three straight birdies on holes 1, 2, and 3 as she played her final 9 holes in 2-under par to finish the day tied for 24th on the individual leaderboard.
As a team, Richmond shot 311 (+23) and is in 18th place. The Spiders combined for 12 birdies Friday, tied for sixth-most in the field, but managed just 38 pars, 10 fewer than any other team.Â
Sophomore Lauren Jones and freshman Olivia Wilkie both shot 78 (+6) and are tied for 59th place. Freshman Hannah Lydic provided UR's final team score, a 9-over 81. Senior Kendall Miller shot 87 (+15) in her season debut.Â
The second round will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday, with players going off the first and tenth tees.
