01/03/2023 | Football
Richmond, Va. — Four members of the University of Richmond football team were named Division I FCS All-ECAC. Quarterback Reece Udinski (North Wales, Pa.) and offensive lineman Ryan Coll (Gainesville, Va.) were named All-ECAC Offense, while defensive end Marlem Louis (Venice, Fla.) and linebacker Tristan Wheeler (Bethlehem, Pa.) were named All-ECAC Defense.
Udinski led the Spiders to the third-highest total offense in the CAA at 424.1 yards per game, throwing for 29 touchdowns while rushing in four in his final season. He is third all-time in season passing yards for the Spiders, becoming just the third quarterback to throw for over 3,000 yards in a single season. He's first all-time in season attempts and his 58 from the Elon game rank second all-time, while his 42 completions from that day rank first all-time for any Spider. His season completion percentage of 73.4 is also the highest-ever by a Spider. He helped Richmond earn its first trip to the playoffs since 2016 and its first-ever playoff shutout victory with a 41-0 win against Davidson in the first round, connecting on 28 of 31 pass attempts for his highest completion percentage (90.3%) of the season. With his performance, he set the FCS playoffs single-game record for completion percentage.
Coll was part of an offensive line that led the Spiders to the third-highest producing offense in the CAA as protected Udinski all season and helped the Spiders rank fourth in the CAA in average scoring with 31.3 points per game. Coll started each game this season. His efforts saw the Spiders pick up 5,513 yards of total offense in 2022.
Louis ranked third in the CAA with 8.5 sacks and fifth in average tackles for loss per game with 1.27. This season he totaled 35 tackles including 14.0 for loss (-80), two forced fumbles, five quarterback hurries and one pass breakup. He helped lead Richmond to No. 2 in the CAA in points per game with 20.1 and yards per game with 333.4.
Wheeler was Richmond's leading tackler with 110 (54 solo, 56 asst.) including 11 for loss (-29). He also had two sacks (-9), two interceptions, three pass breakups and seven quarterback hurries on the year. His 110 tackles were the second-most in the CAA this season as he eclipsed the 100 tackles mark for the third-straight full season of football (2019, 2021 fall, 2022). Wheeler currently ranks sixth among active leaders in career tackles per game with 9.15 and has started 37-straight games—the most of any Spider.
