Men's Lacrosse Announces 2024 Home Schedule
11/03/2023 | Men's Lacrosse
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond men's lacrosse head coach Dan Chemotti announced the team's 2024 home slate of games Friday, featuring eight Saturday contests highlighted by four marquee matchups at Robins Stadium.
Four teams that finished in the top 10 of last year's final polls will visit Richmond this season: national runner-up Duke, in-state foe Virginia and perennial powers Georgetown and Maryland.
The other four home games include non-conference matchups against St. John's and Binghamton as well as Atlantic 10 conference games against Hobart and Saint Joseph's
In response to demand for past home games against highly-ranked teams and due to the popularity of the 2023 Atlantic 10 Men's Lacrosse Championship hosted at Robins Stadium, Richmond Athletics will be ticketing for men's lacrosse games in 2024.
Single-game tickets will be priced between $7 and $15 and will go on sale in early January, while season ticket packages will be available for purchase on November 20.
Ticket revenue will contribute to game day enhancements that will improve both the student-athlete and fan experience.
Richmond will begin its defense of its 2023 A-10 championship against Maryland on Saturday, Feb. 4 in what will be the fourth meeting between the programs. The Terrapins last visited Robins Stadium Feb. 8, 2020 when they narrowly escaped the Spiders, 14-13, in double overtime.
Up next, Virginia makes the trip down I-64 for a matchup with the Spiders on Feb. 17. The Cavaliers are the non-conference program the Spiders have faced the most in program history. 2024's game will be the 11th in the series. The last time Virginia visited Robins Stadium, Richmond shocked the lacrosse world with a 17-13 victory over the then second-ranked Cavaliers. Virginia was also Richmond's first-ever opponent, meeting at Robins Stadium Feb. 8, 2014. In that game, the Spiders dropped a 13-12 contest in front of a crowd of 4,249 fans. The teams' most recently met in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, a UVA victory.
St. John's travels to Robins Stadium Feb. 24 in what will be the second-ever contest between the two teams. The squads met for the first time in Queens, N.Y. last season where the Spiders defeated the Red Storm, 11-8.
The next game on Richmond's home schedule is a March 2 meeting with Binghamton, a team the Spiders have yet to see in their 10 full seasons of lacrosse.
2023 national runner-up Duke makes its way to Richmond March 16 for the ninth contest in the series. Richmond is 1-7 all-time against the Blue Devils, with its lone win coming in the first game between the two teams on March 7, 2016 when the Spiders won, 12-10.
Georgetown comes to Robins Stadium a week later on March 22 for the third game in the all-time series between the Spiders and Hoyas. The teams met last season when Georgetown slipped past Richmond, 13-12, in Washington, D.C.
April 6 sees the first conference home game for the Spiders when Hobart visits Robins Stadium. The teams met for the first time last season as members of the newly formed Atlantic 10. Richmond was victorious, coming out on top 20-15 against the Statesmen in Geneva, N.Y.
Finally, Richmond wraps the 2024 regular season home slate against conference opponent Saint Joseph's on April 27. The Spiders and Hawks have met three times before, most recently meeting in Philadelphia on April 1, 2023 during the first-ever Atlantic 10 men's lacrosse conference game.
The strength of the 2024 home schedule is built on the unprecedented success of the program during its first decade of existence. In 2023, Chemotti guided the Spiders to their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and the first-ever Atlantic 10 title after taking down rival High Point, 15-8, in the title game at Robins Stadium. The win marked the third different conference Chemotti and the Spiders have won (Atlantic Sun, Southern, Atlantic 10).
Richmond went a perfect 9-0 at home for just the second time in program history last season and nine Spiders were named to All-Atlantic 10 teams including the conference's Offensive (Dalton Young), Midfield (Lance Madonna) and Rookie (Aidan O'Neil) Players of the Year as well as four All-Rookie selections. Young and Madonna were also named All-American Honorable Mentions by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Both will return to the lineup in 2024.
