Mathes Named to 2023 NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

DALLAS, Texas – Richmond Baseball's Alden Mathes has been named to the watch list for the 18th Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the organization announced Thursday. One of three representatives from the Atlantic 10, Mathes joins 80 other NCAA Division I hurlers from 20 conferences.
A two-way player, Mathes put together a 3-2 record in 2022 with a 3.35 ERA with six starts in nine appearances on the mound. He finished the season third on the team with 58 strikeouts over 43.0 innings of work. When he's not pitching, Mathes is the Spiders centerfielder.
Richmond opens the 2023 season Friday at Alabama with first pitch set for 4 p.m. Eastern on SEC Network Plus.
