Saunders, O'Neil Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards

Newport News, Va. — The University of Richmond Men's Lacrosse Team earned two Atlantic 10 lacrosse weekly awards with Jake Saunders being named Defensive Player of the Week and Aidan O'Neil earning Rookie of the Week after helping the Spiders to two home wins over the weekend.

A graduate student, Saunders tied a career-high five caused turnovers and scooped seven ground balls in the win over Towson on Friday, then picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers against Fairfield Sunday. Saunders and the Richmond man-down defense held opponents to zero goals on 11 man-up opportunities over the weekend. The team currently ranks sixth in the country in the category.

O'Neil continued his scoring streak over the weekend, picking up two goals and two assists against Towson and one against Fairfield. The freshman has started and scored in all four games so far this season and is tied for third on the team in points with nine.

Up next, the Spiders head to Charlottesville to play No. 1 Virginia at 6 p.m. Saturday.
