02/27/2023 | Women's Golf
CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Richmond Spiders Women's Golf team recorded a score of four-over par (292) in Monday's second round of the RiverTowne Invitational to move into the top half of the 19-team field. With Tuesday's final round remaining, Richmond is ninth in the field with a 36-hole total of 592 (+16).
Freshman Hannah Lydic has led the Spiders through two rounds, posting scores of 74 (+2) and 71 (-1) for a total of 145 (+1), tied for 17th on the individual leaderboard. Lydic's 71 Tuesday was the best round by any Spider since last September's Nittany Lion Invitational.
"Being patient," said Lydic of the key to her Tuesday effort. "On the front nine I had 7 one-foot par putts. Because of Coach's reminder to be patient I didn't get down on myself when those birdie putts would just miss. I hit the ball well today but the short game was there and I was able to score and go low."
Sophomore Rory Weinfurther is one shot below Lydic at 146 (+2), tied for 24th in the field.
Senior Muskan Uppal moved up to 59th in the field after shooting a 1-over 73 Tuesday, a six-stroke improvement over her Round 1 effort.
Senior Vicky Zhu is tied for 63rd at 153 (+9) and freshman Olivia Wilkie is one shot back at 154 (+10), tied for 67th place.
Tuesday's final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
