ORLANDO, Fla. – Behind dominating doubles matches and three key singles wins, the University of Richmond Women's Tennis team defeated No. 13 Saint Joseph's, 4-0, in the opening match of the Atlantic 10 Championship in Orlando, Fla. Thursday morning. With the win, the Spiders improved to 9-14 on the year and will take on No. 5 George Washington in the second round on Friday at 9 a.m.

In doubles, duo Andrea Campodonico and Polina Shitikova handled business on court one as they defeated Stow Weiss/ Anna Kirk (SJU), 6-0, and Lara Bakhaya and Elizabeth Novak gave the Spiders the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Sophia Amato/ Ireland Amato (SJU) on court three. Claire Le Du and Marta Buendia led Fabiana Tort/ Emily Elliott, 5-4, as the match was left unfinished.

In singles, Novak came up with a huge victory, 6-1, 6-0 over Tort (SJU) on court four while Buendia took her singles court six match over I. Amato (SJU), 6-3, 6-2. Le Du rounded out the match for the Spiders, picking up the final singles point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Elliott on court five.
