
Tierney Takes Home A-10 Offensive Player of the Year Award, Eight Others Earn Nods

Newport News, Va. - The Atlantic 10 released its major end-of-year awards and All-Conference teams Wednesday, with nine Spiders earning honors from the conference. During the regular season, the Spiders went 14-3 with an 8-1 conference record—the same results they concluded their 2022 regular season with.Â
Arden Tierney dominated the voting as she took home the honors of A-10 Offensive Player of the Year, All-Conference First-Team, and All-Academic Team. Tierney is one of only three conference members to be represented in three different award categories. She returned to the 2023 season after earning Second-Team All-Conference Honors in 2022.Â
Joining Tierney on the All-Conference Attack First-Team is Lindsey Frank, her second year earning the honors.
Sophia DiCenso, the 2022 A-10 Midfielder of the Year finds herself with a spot on the All-Conference Midfielder First-Team list.
 A pair of Richmond newcomers were named to the All-Rookie Team with Juliana Stanley and Jordyn Harrison earning nods.

"This is an incredible accomplishment for each of these young women and our program as a whole. This team has worked hard to continue to develop over the course of this season and it is wonderful for their efforts to be recognized by the coaches in our conference"
Nationally, Tierney is ranked No. 6 in draw controls per game, No. 19 for points, No. 14 for assists and No. 15 for assists per game. Through her leadership, Richmond is ranked in the top 10 nationally in the following categories:  No. 3 draw controls per game, No. 4 draw control percentage, No. 4 scoring offense No. 7 points per game and No. 10 assists per game.
Prior to the 2023 season, Tierney was listed as a USA Lacrosse Magazine/Nike Preseason All-American. Tierney hit three huge milestones during her senior season; 200 career points, the single season draw control program record (currently 154), and the career draw controls program record (currently 370).
The Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing not only found success on the field, but also in the classroom. Tierney is wrapping up her college career earning herself a spot on the 2023 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.Â
Lindsey Frank, All-Conference First-Team, Attack
Frank has served as Richmond's No. 1 offensive goals leader (51), No. 3 in points (67), No. 1 in ground balls (29), No. 2 in draw controls (54) and leads Richmond attackers in caused turnovers (15), game winning goals, and free position goals. In the A-10, Frank ranks #No. 2 in goals per game (3.00). She has helped Richmond to No. 1 in A-10 rankings in goals per game (16.24), draw controls per game (118.29), draw control percentage (.621), goals scored (276) and total draw controls (311) and No. 2 ranking in assists per game (7.63), points per game (23.63), caused turnovers per game (8.88). Frank has been a key part in Richmond's national rankings:  No. 3 draw controls per game, No. 6 draw control percentage, No. 7 scoring offense No. 7 points per game and No. 10 assists per game.Â
This is Frank's second year in a row earning this honor.Â
Sophia DiCenso, All-Conference First-Team, Midfield
DiCenso started every regular season game, is a team captain, and vocal leader who has been critical in keeping both sides of the ball connected.  She contributes heavily on both ends of the field: fourth on team in goals (28), fifth in points (30), while also adding 20 ground balls, 19 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers. DiCenso is equally as dangerous on offense as she is on defense, being a staple at midfield.Â
DiCenso has been key part of Richmond's No. 1 ranking overall in the A-10 in goals per game, No. 2 in assists per game and No. 4 nationally ranked scoring offense. As well as No. 1 in the A10 in draw controls per game, No. 1 nationally in draws per game and No. 4 nationally in draw control percentage.Â
She earns this honor after receiving the 2022 Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year award.Â
Maggie O'Brien, All-Conference First-Team, Defense
O'Brien started every game this season, being a defensive leader and captain. She has been a crucial member of the defensive unit, draw unit and Richmond's transition game. O'Brien consistently matched up on opposing team's biggest threats while also keeping the defensive unit working together. She leads the team in caused turnovers (21), is tied for first on the team in ground balls (28) and is third on the team in draw controls (32). A starter on the draw circle, she is a key part of the draw unit that is No. 1 in the A-10 in draw controls per game, No. 1 nationally in draws per game and No. 4 nationally in draw control percentage.
Juliana Stanley, Jordyn Harrison, All-Rookie TeamÂ
Stanley has played in 13 games, starting two including the teams win over No. 10 Virginia where she contributed a goal and an assist. She is 4/5 on free positions and has 11 points on the season. Stanley's speed and strength has allowed her to get on the field immediately as a freshman.  Â
Jordyn Harrison Moved into the starting lineup after the first conference game. In conference-only play she leads the defensive unit in ground balls (15) and the team in caused turnovers (8). Considering all games, she is fifth on the team for ground balls and caused turnovers. Harrison has established herself as a vocal and aggressive member of our defensive unit.
Colleen Quinn, All-Conference Second-Team, Attack
Quinn started every game of her sophomore campaign. She sits at Richmond's No. 2 in offensive goals (47), assists (24), and points leader (71).  Quinn has Richmond's highest scoring percentage of .644 and shot on goal percentage of .795. Quinn ranks No. 1 in the A-10 and No. 2 nationally for scoring percentage as well.Â
In the A-10, Quinn ranks fifth in goals per game and is one of only three players to rank in the top 10 in goals per game, assists per game, points per game. Quinn's efficiency to find the back of the net, along with assisting her teammates has been crucial in Richmond's top 10 national rankings: No. 4 scoring offense, No. 7 points per game and No. 10 assists per game.Â
She returned from a 2022 season where she earned the All-Rookie Team honors.Â
Hannah Custer, Jax Donohue, All-Conference Second-Team, Defense
Custer has started every game this season and has transitioned from the midfield into a lock down defender. She is tied for first on the team in ground balls (28) and is second in caused turnovers (16). More notably, it has been her ability to limit opponents' top threats and ball handlers. Custer held, then ranked 10th, Virginia's #5 Rachel Clark (team leader in goals (60) and points (73)) scoreless for the first time this season and it has only happened once more against No. 4 James Madison. Custer returned to the 2023 season after earning 2022 All-Rookie honors.Â
Donohue started every game this season and remained a defensive leader and a captain.Donohue was second in the defensive unit for ground balls (26). She consistently jams up ball handlers. Most notably this season, she limited Davidson's #1 Grace Fahey (team leader in points (64) and goals (37), No. 3 in the A-10 in points per game, No. 5 in A-10 in assists per game) to 1 point—tied for her second lowest output of the season. In 2021, Donohue earned the same award.
The Spiders head into the Atlantic 10 tournament this week as the No. 2 seed, facing off against the winner of No. 3 Saint Joseph's and No. 6 St. Bonaventure on Friday at 3 p.m. at Cary Street Field on VCU's campus.
