10 Spiders Named VaSID All-State, O'Neil Named Rookie of the Year

Richmond, Va. — The association of Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2023 men's lacrosse All-State team Friday with 10 Spiders making the list including Aidan O'Neil as Rookie of the Year. The VaSID University Division All-State team includes players from Virginia's three Division I men's lacrosse programs in Richmond, Virginia and VMI. Players included on these teams are considered the best in the Commonwealth.
First Team selections included Lance Madonna and Jake Saunders. The Second Team consisted of Aidan O'Neil who was also named VaSID Rookie of the Year, Dalton Young, Luke Grayum, Derrek Madonna, Joe Sheridan, Tommy Stull, Jared Chenoy and Zach Vigue.

- Finished the season fifth in the country in assists per game (2.00)
- Started all 16 games
- Second on the team in points (46), goals (29) and third in assists (17)
- Recorded three game winning goals, 18 ground balls and seven caused turnovers
- Recorded six points (two goals, four assists) in the Atlantic 10 Championship game

- Led the team with 35 caused turnovers
- Picked up 58 ground balls, the most of any non-face off specialist

- Lead Richmond in scoring with a career-high 73 points via 32 goals and 41 assists
- Recorded 26 ground balls and three caused turnovers
- Recorded 100th career goal against St. Bonaventure (April 29) becoming the fourth Spider to ever reach 100.
- Tied a career high eight points at Hobart (April 22) and in A-10 semifinal win over UMass (May 4)
- Scored season-high five goals in A-10 semifinal win over UMass (May 4)

- Richmond's third leading scorer
- Recorded 27 goals and 18 assists for 46 points
- Tallied 18 ground balls and 7 caused turnovers
- Recorded eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) against Bucknell (Feb. 18)
- Named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week (Feb. 20)
Derrek Madonna | Midfield | Gr. | East Syracuse, N.Y.
- Played in 16 games starting 15
- Played midfield alongside younger brother Lance
- Recorded 24 goals and six assists for 30 points
- Recorded a pair of game winning goals
- Recorded 19 ground balls and two caused turnovers
- Tallied six points including two man-up goals against Bucknell (Feb. 18)
- Scored four goals, including his 100th career, against his former team, Hobart (April 22)
Joe Sheridan | Midfield | Fr. | West Chester, Pa.
- Appeared in all 16 games, starting 11
- Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team Selection
- Scored 20 goals and added four assists
- Scored first goal of career and Richmond's season against Maryland (Feb. 4)
- Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week twice in back-to-back weeks (April 9 and April 16)

- Played in 15 games
- Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team
- Scored three goals
- Scored first career goal against High Point (April 15)
- Picked up 34 ground balls and caused 17 turnovers

- Played in and took the opening face off in all 16 games
- Went 194-of-388 for a .500 face off percentage
