Women’s Basketball Releases 2023-24 Non-Conference Schedule

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Women's Basketball team unveiled its 13-game 2023-24 non-conference slate on Monday, featuring two invitationals, three road contests and five home games inside the Robins Center.
"We feel like we have a strong team and the coaching staff wanted to challenge this group at the highest level," Head Coach Aaron Roussell said on the non-conference schedule. "The ultimate goal is to win the A-10, and to do so you need to be prepared for that gauntlet. This non-conference slate will do that for us."
The Spiders will get things rolling with a tough road contest at Duke on Nov. 6 inside Cameron Indoor Stadium for the second-straight meeting with the Blue Devils.
"In addition to Duke being an incredible challenge, the experience of playing in Cameron Indoor Stadium will be a lifetime memory for our players," Roussell continued. "We did not play well against them last year, so starting with them as our first opponent should help drive preseason practices."
The 2023-24 home opener for the Spiders is slated for Nov. 13 against Delaware State inside the Robins Center before the team takes on Gardner-Webb on the road Nov. 15. The Spiders will then play host to American on Nov. 18 before Thanksgiving break.
For Thanksgiving, the Spiders will be featured in the Drake Thanksgiving Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa inside the Knapp Center (Drake University). The team will play in a round-robin style invitational against Drake, Maine and Louisiana Tech Nov. 24-26.
"The invitational at Drake will be similar to the A-10 tournament in that we have an opportunity to play three games in three days, with a couple of those being neutral site games," Roussell said. "Each of those games will be against national postseason participants last year, so it will be a very challenging weekend."
Following the invitational, the Spiders will travel to Villanova for a midweek matchup on Nov. 30. Not only will the game against the Wildcats mark a hometown return for sophomore Maggie Doogan and graduate Anna Camden, but it will also pit freshman Courtney Swider against Wildcat sister Kylie Swider (Villanova).
The Spiders begin a three-game home stand inside Robins Center with newly invited Northeast Conference (NEC) and NCAA DI institution Le Moyne on Dec. 3, Appalachian State on Dec. 10 and Liberty on Dec. 16. In 2022-23, Richmond opened the season against LU in Lynchburg where the Spiders rolled past the Flames, 69-48.
For the final non-conference test, the Spiders will travel down to Cherokee, N.C. for the Cherokee Invitational. The tournament-style schedule will have the Spiders taking on Michigan State on Dec. 20 and either Chattanooga or Coastal Carolina on Dec. 21.
"The Cherokee tournament will give us the chance to play against a Big 10 opponent on a neutral-site floor," Roussell said. "We also get to play against Chattanooga, who was an NCAA team last year or Coastal Carolina who will be in the hunt for an NCAA berth this year as well as giving Torin Rogers a chance to play in front of a hometown crowd."
Tip-off times and broadcast information for the non-conference slate will be updated on RichmondSpiders.com as it becomes available. UR's full schedule, including conference games, will be announced in September while season tickets can be purchased by calling the Richmond Athletics Ticket Office at 1-877-SPIDER1 or visiting the ticketing website.
