RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond Head Coach Aaron Roussell announced Tuesday the addition of Alex Louin to complete the Women's Basketball coaching staff ahead of the 2023-24 season.
"I am thrilled to add Alex to our staff," Roussell said. "Alex is regarded highly by those that have worked with her in the past, and I know she will be a tremendous asset to our program as well. I'm confident that her player development background will benefit our players and staff immediately."
Louin brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the staff. Most recently, Louin finished a year-long stint as the assistant basketball coach at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Prior to her time in North Carolina, she spent one season with the Fordham Men's Basketball program as a player development coach.
'I'm so excited and grateful for the opportunity to be added to the coaching staff here at Richmond," Louin said. I have a long-standing relationship with Coach Roussell which began when he recruited me out of high school. He has a brilliant basketball mind and has created an unbelievable culture here at Richmond that I can't wait to be immersed in.'
Louin, a Doylestown, Pa. native, has experience playing professionally with Luxemborg's BBX Grengewald Hueschert and in the Finnish leagues with Torpan Pojat (ToPo). In Luxembourg, Louin was a first-team All-Total League Champion and capped off her time with a deep buzzer-beating three to win the league championship in 2018. With ToPo, Louin led the country in scoring at 28 ppg, was named first-team All-League and Foreign Player of the Year, being the only American player on the team.
Before her professional career, Louin played four years at Villanova from 2014-2018. As a Wildcat, she was a four-year All-Big East performer, scored 1,432 career points, and is top 20 in Villanova's record book in points, rebounds and assists. She piloted three WNIT appearances, and the team's first NCAA Tournament berth in five years in 2018.
"It is a cool moment to be able to hire Alex now as we recruited her many years ago as a player coming out of the Philly area," Roussell said. "She went on to have an incredible playing career and I know she will do equally great things as a coach as well."
Louin was a double major in economics and finance at Villanova and holds a Master's of Business Administration from her alma mater.
